Pakistan is considered as one of the most leading country in the field of IT. But now as the new Pakistani IT minister Anusha Rehman issues a new statement regarding ban of Google, Pakistan seems to be going out of the way of progress. on June 9, 2o13 she issued a statement.
It all depends on our negotiation clout. If they persist with their stance, we can block Google in Pakistan as a last resort as there are many alternative search engines available on the web.
Anusha Rahman was quoted
Minister of state for IT and telecommunication Anusha Rahman Khan made the remarks on her first day in Office on Saturday while talking about Pakistan’s efforts to end a nine-month ban on YouTube for hosting clips from the controversial film “Innocence of Muslims”.
The new IT minister Anusha Khan seems to be only considering Google as a search engine (By the way I’m pretty much sure She don’t know what Search Engines actually do, how they work etc) but it is more than that. Thousands of people use Google as an source of income through Google adsense and thousands of dollars are earned by people in Pakistan. Already big web corporations around the world like PayPal consider Pakistan as cheaters and don’t provide them services. The ban on Google will present the image of Pakistan more bad in cyber world.
Pakistan banned YouTube on September 17 last year. The ban was lifted for a few hours in December (Actually Uncle Rahman Malik don’t know how to use proxy so for he order to open YouTube to watch some movie 😀 Kidding ) before being reinstated following protests from right wing groups.
There are many objects on the eligibility of new IT minister, she is a lawyer and how she can be an IT minister? Information technology secretary Zafar Iqbal blames PTA for failing to devise a filtration system but the new minister of state for IT said she did not buy the argument and believes the ministry could have done better during the past nine months.
PTA is just an enforcement body. Our ministry is responsible for policy decisions, so it’s our job to ensure reopening of YouTube as soon as possible with thorough screening of objectionable material. I will immediately start work on it after a presentation by ministry officials on Monday.
Anusha Rahman said.
Google helps millions of people to gather informations in their daily rountine. If there is any problem in the content of google then Pakistan’s IT related departments’ should personally remove the unwanted content. Google and IT is more than just checking porn and emails. Crawler-based search engines, such as Google, create their listings automatically. They “crawl” or “spider” the web, then people search through what they have found. And banning any website just because it got some bad points is not going to solve the problem we have to nip the bud from the roots.
If we ban it today we will face similar problem on any other website so PTA and IT ministry should prepare a proper plan to moniter the content and remove it automatically if any mismatch is found. of course it will demand money and experts but it will be a permanent solution.
As a tax payer and citizen of PAKISTAN it is our right to demand each and every facility and resource. IT experts say Pakistan has had little success in blocking blasphemous and other objectionable material on YouTube as the country does not have an agreement on content with Google.
